Director Note:

Tonight is a night about hope. I had hoped, starting a community theatre in Midtown would mean something. I had hoped, folks from far and wide would desire to donate their personal time to be a part of the creative process. I had hoped, people from all walks of life would fill our seats to hear the voices of humanity. I had hoped, Midtown Neighborhood Association wouldn’t think I was crazy for this suggestion.

I am thrilled to say these hopes were fulfilled.

I have great faith in higher powers. I have pondered this too many times, wavering most of the time:

  • Why do this?

  • Why work so hard on something when you could be doing other things?

  • What happens if you fail?

  • What happens if it fails?

And every time—every single time—some force greater than myself, the cast, and the company lifts all of us and lifts the audience along the way.  That force knows the communion of the arts and its power.

I do not need hope now.

But I do have profound gratitude to my cast and crew—new friends and rekindled ones. I have gratefulness to so many of you have contributed financially so we can begin this journey. And I have so much love for the organizations who have supported and opened their doors.

Tonight started as an experiment. What would happen if you invited people to the table to just say “something?” No organized play, just a collection of desires to be shared. A terrorizing proposition really—some would call it “mad.”

However, because of said “greater power,” the work, became a message. A “theater tick tok” moment of humanity, couched in honest loss, perspective inspired humor and ultimately acceptance of self, and I hope of others.

This is the beginning and I humbly thank you for sharing your time tonight with this amazing group of people.

ZAP!
